Quienes Somos?

Hi! My name is José and I’m the founder of Clef Code. I like to say that we are a “boutique” software development company — which is a romantic way of saying we’re a small business.

and we specialize in…

Setting boats afloat!

– ¿Sorry, what?

I’ll explain it in a moment… but first, let me tell you a bit more about us.

Look, I’ve worked at medium-sized, large, and tremendously large software development companies. The bigger the company, the more they emphasize how “agile” they are… some of them are about as agile as an elephant climbing trees.

Agility has become essential in software development, but it’s been repeated so many times that it’s lost its meaning.

But we’re a boutique software factory, and that forces us to be agile… (Aha! You thought you’d escape the cliché). The truth is, we really have to be agile—like hummingbirds—because our survival depends on it. For us, it’s a matter of life and death.

Our first client reached out to us for a Salesforce integration with a service provided by another company. They offered the service, but didn’t handle the integration—they just weren’t interested in that part of the business. And I’m going to be as honest with you as we were with them… we had no idea how we were going to integrate with Salesforce.

But we told them… WE CAN HELP YOU. And for some reason, they believed us. And that’s how we jumped into that project. We had to study, learn (and row, and row a lot, I won’t lie to you). But we got it working, and the integration has been running smoothly for quite some time now. And best of all… we’re still working together!

La historia del barquito

I started programming out of admiration for my father back in the 80s. At that time, having a computer at home was pretty uncommon in Argentina. But my dad worked in application development, and a PC made its way into our home out of necessity.

Driven by curiosity—and because I wanted to get my hands on it—I asked to borrow a QBasic book… a programming language that, just to give you an idea, would be the Renault 4 GTL of programming languages. It might seem ancient now, but back then, it had its charm. And most importantly… it got you where you wanted to go.

So, armed with that book, I wrote my first program at just 10 years old. It was a very simple little program, of course—one that just drew a small boat using ASCII characters.

Haciendo navegar esos pequeños barquitos

When my dad came home from work that night, I proudly showed him what I had created, and of course, he congratulated me… But then he sat down at the computer, typed a few lines of code… and voilà! The little boat started to move right before my eyes.

I was blown away! How had he managed to create that magic with just a few lines of code? And now the boat was moving! I was amazed.

Maybe it was the image of that little boat sailing, or maybe it was the thrill of discovering a shared passion with my father—but that moment sparked my vocation.

And that’s why I’ve spent the last 24 years following this passion, developing software at companies of all shapes and sizes. I’ve worked with many different technologies. Programming is like setting that little boat afloat. Every time someone brings a problem to solve, it doesn’t really matter what it is—I see an ASCII-drawn boat that needs to sail.

Being a small company allows us to be truly agile. Our main goal is for our clients to love us, and we go far beyond the call of duty to make that happen. We seek out projects that challenge us, that raise the bar, that push us to keep growing—and most of all, that let us keep learning.

What do you say? Do you have a project you’d like to share with us? Maybe we can help you. And if we can’t, maybe we can help you find someone who can. 😉

In any case, we’re here to help…
For well-established software companies growing at astronomical yearly rates, you’ll be just another client.
But for us, you’ll be a special one.

We can help you too…
